Settings, controls and voice chat
Turn off camera shake under Options → Controls, lower sensitivity if your casts are inconsistent, and use push-to-talk plus per-player mute for crew voice.
Voodoo Fishin' has no keybind menu to speak of, but it does have the settings that decide whether the game feels good: a camera shake toggle for the fish fights, mouse sensitivity that directly changes your cast distance, controller support for everything, and a voice setup that matters the moment you bring a crew. Here is the practical list, including the two things players keep asking for and the one that got fixed in 1.0.
Controls you actually need
| Action | Input |
|---|---|
| Cast | Hold middle mouse button, flick the mouse forward, release as you flick |
| Cut the line / toss a held fish back | G |
| Open the Journal (at the bookshelf, or anywhere once unlocked) | E |
| Open the cooler selection mode (while holding the cooler) | C (or gamepad North) |
| Quick-select a cooler slot | number keys 1–0 |
| Bring up the Compass on a controller | the dedicated Compass input |
Casting and the Fish Club share the same motion — the club swing uses the casting controls — so if you are the designated bonker in your crew, you already know the input.
The two settings that change the game
Camera Shake can be switched off under Options → Controls. Fighting a big fish shakes the camera, and for anyone who plays for hours or gets motion sick, this is the single most valuable toggle in the game.
Mouse sensitivity and DPI determine how much of your flick the game registers. Higher DPI means less physical movement for the same cast distance, and one patch specifically fixed very high DPI settings swallowing small mouse movements. If your casts swing between "barely past my feet" and "somewhere in the far reeds", lower the sensitivity and make the motion repeatable before you blame the rod.
Voice, muting and crew housekeeping
Proximity voice chat is built into every Dock. You hear nearby puppets, which is both the point and the reason push-to-talk was added — some players find an open mic in a horror game unhelpful. You can also mute individual players in your current Dock, and blocking a player stops future public matchmaking with them, which is a permanent equivalent of a mute.
Audio mixing got attention in 1.0: SFX clips that used to ignore the mixer now respect the SFX slider, and the chum bucket and main menu sounds were fixed after a player complaint about their ears. Still on the wishlist, per player threads: a per-player voice volume slider so one loud friend can be turned down without being muted.
Controllers, Deck and accessibility
Controller support is flagged on the store page as full, including DualShock and DualSense pads, and tutorial signage swaps to controller icons automatically when a pad is connected. Text button sizing was improved for Steam Deck. Separately, a known rough edge at launch: at low graphics settings, tutorial text has been reported as unreadable, and the developers asked for specifics from players hitting it — raising text clarity is the workaround people report using.
Quality of life that already exists
- Cooler Respawn empties your cooler and respawns it near your outhouse, which is the correct answer to "my cooler is stuck across the map".
- Compass auto-updates for area names can be toggled off if the pop-ups interrupt your fishing.
- Join protection was added so players stop landing in lobbies that are already in a bad state, and save protections were improved over several patches.
If your problem is specifically that the bait lands short, that is a mechanic rather than a setting — the casting page explains the timing and the rod tier ceiling. If the problem is that you cannot hear your crew, start with the co-op and voice page.
