Junk and loot containers
Junk has no bait preference — you get it by fishing an area out — and it sells at Rusty Remy's, feeds campfires and pairs with bait in enchant recipes.
Junk is the part of Voodoo Fishin' that most players ignore for their first few hours and then suddenly need. It sells for cash at Rusty Remy's, it fuels the Enchanted Campfire, it is a core ingredient in Auntie Brigitte's recipes, and some pieces tell you what kind of water you are standing in. On top of that, the swamp is full of containers that hand out free tackle — and every one of them has its own achievement.
What junk is, and how you get it
Junk has no bait preference. You do not lure it, you exhaust the area: fish a spot empty, or fish it with a bait nothing in that water likes, and the trash starts coming up. Players describe this as the standard method, and it is also why a spot that has gone quiet is not always a dead spot — it may be about to hand you a fridge.
| Container | Achievement | Why it is worth opening |
|---|---|---|
| Briefcase | Files Redacted | Contents and the achievement |
| Milk crate | Lost in a Boating Accident | Contents and the achievement |
| Trunk | Samson-notquite | Contents and the achievement |
| Coffin | Grave Robber | Contents and the achievement |
| Fridge | Midnight Snacks | Contents and the achievement |
Loot crates hand out random tackle, which is a genuinely useful early-game shortcut — Lost Arcade described the crate system as a good way to level up quickly because of the free tackle, and said a grappling-hook and loot-crate tutorial was coming. Opened crates despawn, so there is nothing to leave behind.
The four uses for junk
- Sell it at Rusty Remy's. Non-fish items are not the fish monger's business, so the raft across the lake is the only cash counter for junk.
- Feed the Enchanted Campfire. An enchanted Lil' Sparky deployed as a campfire creates a monster-free pocket for about eight minutes, and junk keeps it burning longer.
- Enchant with it. Auntie Brigitte's recipes pair a bait with a junk item to produce targeted lures — including the junk-only lure that players use to farm more junk.
- Read the water with it. Some junk counts as an indicator of the local habitat, which is a free hint when you are trying to work out which habitat tag a stretch of water carries.
Don't sell everything on the first pass
The instinct to clear your cooler of junk is fine once you know the map, but on a new stretch of water the junk in your cooler is telling you something about the habitat. Pick it up, check the journal against what you are catching, and sell the surplus after the trip. Because junk has no bait preference, it is also the cheapest way to keep a cooler productive while you are fishing somewhere that has been picked clean by your crew.
Junk in a crew night
Junk is the chore nobody wants, and that is exactly why it works as a role. One player fishing the quiet corner for crates keeps the campfire fed, keeps spare bait coming from recipes and keeps cash flowing from Remy's, while everyone else chases bounties in open water. It is also how the junk-only lure gets made, which is the fastest route to the achievements tied to containers. If you want to see the full achievement list including the five crate-related ones, the achievements page has all 32 grouped by type.
