Enchanting and recipes

Quick answer

Bring a bait and the junk her recipe asks for to Auntie Brigitte's pot; rod and reel enchantments give one-time death protection, and enchanted bait ignores rarity ceilings.

Enchanting is the layer of Voodoo Fishin' that turns ordinary gear into the stuff you are not allowed to lose. Three things can be enchanted: bait, so that it ignores its normal rarity ceiling and only catches the tier it was tuned for; rods and reels, so that they survive one death that would otherwise take them; and junk-plus-bait combinations that produce special lures. All of it happens at the pot belonging to Auntie Brigitte, and the in-game Recipe page lists what she accepts. Enchanted bait is the only route to Voodoo-tier fish, so read the bait guide first if you are still working out rarity ceilings.

How the pot works

Bring a bait and the junk item her recipe asks for, and she produces the enchanted result. Two practical notes: her Boil only serves one player at a time, so in a crew you queue; and the recipe page inside the game is the authority on combinations, because the junk list has grown and some older player-posted recipes stopped working when new junk was added.

Enchanted resultWhat it is used for
Enchanted baitIgnores the normal rarity ceiling; only catches the tier it is tuned for
Voodoo-tier baitThe only route to Voodoo fish catches, and it starts at Auntie Brigitte
Rod or reel enchantmentOne-time loss prevention if you die carrying that piece
Special lures from bait + junkTargeted catches — rarity-limited or junk-limited, depending on the combo

The player-posted recipe list

The following combinations were compiled by a player from screenshots of the recipe process and refined in the comments. Treat them as leads rather than gospel, since new junk has changed some recipes:

  • Buzz Nipper — reported to attract only the rarest fish, until a Voodoo fish takes it.
  • Rubber Ducky — reported to attract only rare fish, until one is hooked.
  • Boot combinations — same idea: only the rarest fish, until a Voodoo fish is caught.
  • Sneaky Tickler — same family of effect.
  • Little Snappy plus Trike — produces a lure that only catches junk, which is exactly what you want when you are farming crates.
  • Bald Eagle Feet — reported to attract only legendary fish.

The same thread contains the most useful piece of advice for junk: to get junk in the first place, fish out an area or use a bait nothing in that water likes. Junk has no bait preference of its own, which is why it shows up when the fish are not interested.

Loss prevention is the enchantment people forget

Rod and reel enchantments behave differently from bait enchantments: they are a one-time insurance policy. If you are carrying a rod you cannot afford to replace, spend the enchantment on it, and the next death takes the enchantment instead of the rod. Given that visible tackle drops when you die and can otherwise only be recovered by buying it back from the Pawn Shop, this is the cheapest protection available in the game.

Lil' Sparky and the campfire

The exception to "bait is for fishing" is Lil' Sparky. Enchanted, it repels nearby monsters while it is equipped, and casting it deploys an Enchanted Campfire that protects every puppet in range. The campfire burns for eight minutes — the developers raised it from three — and you can feed it junk to keep it lit. Players also report finding an already-enchanted Lil' Sparky inside loot crates, which is the cheapest possible way to get one.

If the junk side of a recipe is the part you are missing, the junk page covers how to farm it. The campfire that enchanted Lil' Sparky deploys is covered in context on the monsters page, and the rest of the shops are mapped on the traders page.

Where to find Auntie Brigitte: players describe the route as leaving the spawn dock, crossing toward the haunted forest past the ghost area and the purple light, and looking for a portal-like structure — it is dark, so bring a light and expect to fall in the water at least once. That direction is player-described rather than an official map marker.
