Voodoo Fishin' frequently asked questions
Quick answers on casting, dying, session resets, the journal, Voodoo fish, junk and the demo, all sourced from official material or player-verified reports.
Short answers to the questions that come up most often on the Steam forums and in the first hour of play. Everything here is drawn from the store page, the developers' own announcements and guides, or player reports quoted as such.
Is "Voodoo Fishin'" the same as "Voodoo Fishing"?
Yes. The game is officially Voodoo Fishin', with an apostrophe, by Lost Arcade on Steam (app 3071240). Search engines often correct the spelling and return charter-boat results instead.
How many people can play together?
One to six players in online co-op. Lobbies grew during Early Access — five-player docks arrived in July 2026 and six-player docks in August — and sessions are self-hosted, so they do not depend on a company keeping servers alive.
Can I play alone?
Yes. Solo sessions work, you are just slower: chum, the Fish Club and shared quotas all assume somebody else is on the boat.
Why does my progress disappear when I leave a lobby?
Because quota upgrades are session-only. Bigger coolers, Sprint and Jump boosts, the Chum Bucket and the Fish Club reset when the lobby ends. Your money, the tackle you bought, and your journal records persist. If you rejoined a friend's session and lost your upgrades, that is the intended behaviour rather than a bug.
Where did my fish go when I died?
The swamp keeps them. Dying loses the contents of your cooler, and any rod, reel or bait you were visibly holding is dropped in the world and lost. Lost tackle can appear in the Pawn Shop's trays as a chance to buy it back, and enchanted rods or reels can carry a one-time loss-prevention enchantment.
Why can't I cast very far?
Two reasons, in this order: the release timing of your flick, and the rod's Cast Distance ceiling. Hold the middle mouse button, swipe forward, release as you flick — and take Jonah Swol's tutorial mission, which gives you a better rod than the one you start with. Low-tier rods were deliberately given shorter range to make rod upgrades matter.
Where is the journal?
On the bookshelf on the main dock, next to the outhouses where you spawn; press E. A hotkey added in April 2026 also opens it anywhere in the world.
A fish that lives here never bites. What am I doing wrong?
Check three things in order: depth, spot and tags. Depth comes from your reel — Top, Pelagic and Bottom are separate layers — and a fish listed as bottom-dwelling cannot take a surface bait. Spots can be fished out, especially after a long crew session, which is what chum is for. And the journal only lists habitats where a fish can be found; fish activity is a separate thing, so a spot can be correct and still quiet.
Is there a map?
No map screen. The game gives you a Compass that names areas as you enter them, can be cast into water to reveal a spot's habitat tags, and can be toggled off in options if the pop-ups bother you.
Can I catch every Voodoo fish?
Yes — a developer reply confirmed that all of them can be caught. Voodoo catches need Voodoo-tier bait, which comes from enchanting at Auntie Brigitte's pot.
What do I do with junk?
Sell it at Rusty Remy's raft, feed it to an Enchanted Campfire to keep it burning, or save it for Auntie Brigitte's recipes. Some junk also hints at the local habitat, so it is worth a look before you sell everything.
How much does the game cost, and is there a demo?
The full game is $7.99 on Steam and it released on October 13, 2026. A demo exists and provides access to the full core gameplay systems while limiting world exploration and higher-tier tackle — a reasonable way to check that the casting motion works for your setup before buying.
The first hour guide covers the early loop in detail, the monsters page covers what keeps killing you, and the traders page explains where every item can be sold.
