Dock Quotas and cooler upgrades
Every fish your crew sells fills one shared meter that unlocks cooler upgrades, movement boosts, the Chum Bucket and the Fish Club — in a random order, for that session only.
The Dock Quota is the system that turns a group of people fishing next to each other into a crew. Every fish anyone sells to a Fish Monger adds to one shared meter, and filling that meter unlocks session upgrades for everyone in the lobby — bigger coolers, movement boosts, and the two teamwork tools. It is also the single most misunderstood system in the game, mostly because the reward order is random and the upgrades do not survive the session.
How the meter fills
Sell fish to either monger and the shared meter takes the hit. Progress counts fish, not weight and not rarity — a cooler full of commons pushes the meter exactly as far as the same number of rare fish. The catch is that the ticks per fish shrink as the meter fills, so the last stretch of a quota takes noticeably more fish than the first. The player-verified advice that follows from this: fill quotas with common fish caught near the spawn dock, because they are plentiful and you can catch them faster than anything else. Save rare fish for the shop, not for quota progress.
The reward pool
| Reward | What it gives |
|---|---|
| Cooler upgrades | 4 slots at the start of a run, then 6, 8 and 10 |
| Sprint Boost | Faster movement out in the swamp |
| Jump Boost | Higher jumps, for reaching awkward spots |
| Chum Bucket | Turn fish into chum and restock a fished-out area |
| Fish Club | Stun a crewmate's hooked fish to help them land it |
The order is random. A player wrote a guide listing a fixed sequence — cooler to six, then chum bucket, then cooler to eight, then club, and so on — and the developer replied directly: at the moment the upgrades are not set, they are a random order. Plan for the pool, not for a sequence.
Two mongers, two reward lists
Caesar at the main dock and Louis at Fort Arbre each run their own Quota meter with their own reward list, and you can preview both before choosing which one your crew works toward. The payout for selling is the same pound for pound, so the choice is really about which reward your crew wants more. If your crew wants a bigger cooler and the dock monger is offering Sprint Boost this session, walk the fish across the lake instead.
Session-only, and why that is fine
Every reward above is an in-session unlock. Leave the lobby and the cooler resets to four slots, along with the boosts, chum and club. Money and purchased tackle persist forever — that is the difference between what you own and what the session gives you. Players regularly report confusion about this after rejoining a friend's lobby, so it is worth saying once more clearly: quota upgrades are per-session; your stash is permanent. The reason it is fine is that a quota run is fast once the crew knows the drill, and it gives a group a reason to start a fresh lobby instead of nursing a stale one.
Running a quota efficiently
- Decide the monger before anyone sells, because selling at the wrong counter shoots the wrong meter.
- Catch commons near the dock for the meter, and let one player with a long rod chase the heavy fish for cash. Two goals, two roles.
- Upgrade your coolers as soon as they unlock; more slots means fewer trips, and fewer trips means less time exposed to monsters.
- Use the Fish Club and chum tools as they arrive rather than hoarding them, since they reset anyway.
- Expect the last push to be slow. If the meter looks stuck, it is not a bug — the tick value has fallen.
