Chum bucket and fish club
Chum turns any fish into a restock for fished-out water, and the Fish Club stuns a teammate's hooked fish using the same flick as casting.
Two of the tools you unlock through Dock Quotas exist purely to solve problems crews hit every session: water that stops producing fish, and fish that will not stop fighting. The Chum Bucket fixes the first, the Fish Club fixes the second, and both are session tools — you get them, you use them, they reset when the lobby ends.
The Chum Bucket
Chum is made by putting any fish into the bucket. The player who measured this found no difference in result between dumping a common fish and a rare one, so use the cheapest fish you have and sell the good ones. Once made, chum is thrown into the water; the throw lands wherever it lands, so place yourself over the area you want to revive rather than expecting a precision drop.
What chum actually does is restock the area. Fished-out water is a real state in this game — ambient fish swimming in a stretch of water represent the local population, and that effect disappears when the area is cleaned out. Chum is the mechanism that brings it back, which means the correct crew habit is to chum the spot you intend to fish a second pass through rather than abandoning it for a fresh walk.
| Action | Effect |
|---|---|
| Put a fish in the Chum Bucket | Converts it into chum (rarity of the fish makes no difference) |
| Throw the chum into fished-out water | Restocks that area so fish return |
| Leave the lobby | Chum bucket resets with the other session upgrades |
The Fish Club
The Fish Club is a cooperative stun. When a crewmate has a fish hooked and it is winning, you walk up and bonk it; stunned fish are far easier to manage, and the whole thing exists to make frantic fights a shared job instead of a solo crisis. The swing uses the same controls as casting — hold the mouse button, flick, release — so there is nothing new to learn. Players report that the stun duration varies with how well you connect, with a "you gave a good whack" popup when you land a clean hit.
The tactical use is obvious once you have a heavy fish on the line: one angler fights, one angler stands behind them ready to swing. On a crew of four or more, having a designated bonker during a legendary attempt is worth more than a second rod in the water.
Working both tools into a normal night
- Chum early, not late. Restock the spot at the moment it goes quiet — waiting until your whole crew has moved on wastes the chum.
- Designate a bonker for the flagged fish. If a bounty is on the board for something heavy, put the club in the hands of whoever is not fighting.
- Don't hoard the club. It resets with the session, so use it in the first hour of every run rather than saving it for an emergency that never comes.
- Read the whole reward pool. Both tools are in the random reward pool, along with cooler upgrades and the Sprint and Jump boosts, so a session that does not hand you a club is a session to fill the meter differently and try again.
Where the tools sit in the wider progression, and how the meter that unlocks them works, is covered on the Dock Quota page. If your crew's problem is coordination rather than tools, the co-op page covers voice, roles and what actually gets shared between players.
