Co-op and proximity voice chat
Docks hold up to six players, voice is proximity-based, quotas and rewards are shared, and money plus purchased tackle stay with you between sessions.
Voodoo Fishin' is built for one to six players, and the entire design assumes you are talking to each other. Your voice only carries as far as your puppet's body, quotas belong to the whole crew rather than to individuals, and two of the tools you unlock exist for no reason other than letting one player help another land a fish. If you are setting up a session for the first time, the three things to know are: how big the lobby can be, how voice actually works, and which progress belongs to the lobby and which belongs to you.
Lobby sizes and what changed
Docks started smaller and grew during Early Access: five-player lobbies arrived on July 30, 2026, and six-player lobbies followed on August 14. The developers watched performance and connection stability at each step before widening the cap, and the six-player dock is what shipped into 1.0. Sessions are self-hosted, so once you are in, the swamp stays open — there is no scheduled server shutdown to worry about.
Proximity voice: the mechanic, not just a feature
Voice chat uses proximity, so distance is information. Someone shouting from the far side of the lake tells you they found something; someone going quiet tells you they went under. Two settings matter:
- Push-to-talk was added because open mics in a horror game are a mixed blessing, and it is the polite default for a six-player crew.
- Mute and block work per player. Muting silences them in your current Dock; blocking goes further and stops future public matchmaking with that account.
What the crew shares
| Shared | Personal |
|---|---|
| Dock Quota meter, and every reward it unlocks | Your money and the tackle you bought |
| The two mongers' reward choices — pick together | Your journal progress and records |
| Fishing spots, chum placement and campfires | Your equipped rod, reel and bait (and the risk of losing them) |
| Mission rotation for the day | Your puppet parts and cosmetics |
Quota upgrades are the interesting case: bigger coolers, Sprint and Jump boosts, the Chum Bucket and the Fish Club are unlocked for the whole lobby, but they reset when the lobby ends. That makes sessions feel like runs rather than a grind — and it is why a crew that plays together regularly will always be faster than four solo players doing the same lake.
The two tools that make teamwork work
The Fish Club lets you stun a fish that a teammate has hooked. Swinging uses the same control as casting, a good hit pops "you gave a good whack", and stunned fish are much easier to land. The usual division of labour is one player fighting and one player standing behind them ready to bonk — it turns a legendary into a two-person job.
The Chum Bucket fixes the other recurring crew problem: fished-out water. Turn a common fish into chum, throw it in, and the area starts producing again. Chum goes wherever it goes when thrown, so place it in water you intend to fish out a second time.
Etiquette that keeps a Dock alive
- Call your depth. If you are fishing bottom, say so, so the rest of the crew covers the surface and pelagic layers instead of crowding you.
- Don't hoard the long rod. Cast Distance decides who can reach the deep middle. Trade off if one player has the only rod that can hit the good water.
- Nobody carries the cooler alone. One angler hauling while everyone else keeps fishing is usually the highest-value split, because a lost cooler kills the whole trip.
- Say when you find a threat. A monster standing between the crew and the dock costs more than any fish on the line.
The monsters page is the shared threat list, the quota page explains the meter everyone is feeding, and the missions page covers the daily jobs that give a crew a direction on a night when nobody has a plan.
